Biocan Tell Me Fast is an immunochromatographic assay used for qualitative detection of E.coli O157. This test is intended for the preliminary detection of E.Coli O157 (including H7) in food and environmental samples.
Escherichia coli O157:H7 is an entrerohemorrhagic serotype of the bacterium Escherichia coli and cause of illness, typically through consumption of contaminated food. Infection with this type of pathogenic bacteria may lead to hemorrhagic diarrhea, and kidney failure. Escherichia coli O157:H7 is a major foodborne pathogen that has posed serious problems for food safety and public health. Recent outbreaks and recalls associated with various foods contaminated by E. coli O157:H7 clearly indicate its deleterious effect on food safety. A rapid and sensitive detection assay is needed for this harmful organism to prevent foodborne illnesses and control outbreaks in a timely manner.
Biocan Tell Me fast E.coli O157 is a rapid immunoassay in lateral flow test device format. It detects the presence of E.coli O157 organism directly from the enrichment medium sample. The E.coli O157 rapid test is performed on test strips consisting of sample pad, conjugate pad containing dried detection reagent, nitrocellulose membrane lined with test and Procedural control lines, and absorbent pad. The sample is applied to sample pad and flows through test strip by capillary action. As the sample moves through the conjugate pad, it solubilize the detection reagent consisting of nano-gold particles coated with anti-E.coli antibodies. If the E.coli organism is present in the sample, a complex of the microorganism and nano-gold particles will form and be captured by anti-E.coli O157 antibodies present in the Test line, as the complex flows through nitrocellulose membrane. The visible colored test line indicates accumulation of this complex in positive samples, while negative samples are indicated by clearly visible control line. Each strip has Procedural control line to control for reagent stability and functionality. A clearly visible Procedural control line indicates that the reagents have flowed normally through the test strip.
